Rob HEADS UP the team at OUR KEMPTOWN roastery. WE roast coffee EVERY DAY on our vintage diedrich COFFEE roasters. SOME OF THE PROFILES WE FOLLOW ARE UNCHANGED FOR THE LAST 17 YEARS, OTHERS CHANGE every time a new crop comes in. If you'd like to find out more we hold free public COFFEE cuppings every friday at redroaster, or come and visit us UP at the roastery.
As one of the UKs pioneering coffee houses, Redroaster first began roasting coffee in Kemptown (Brighton) in 2000 and remains the only certified organic roastery in the South.
Green beans are imported from around the World and we roast incredible fresh coffee for many local businesses, for some of the Worlds finest restaurants and it is now available online.
Single estate, organics, blends and decaffeinated coffees are all available to our customers and partners and our delivery bikes can be seen daily around Brighton where delivery is also free.
ETHICAL COFFEE TRADING
Whilst Fairtrade guarantees farmers a price irrespective of the quality of their produce, it can lead to overproduction which further lowers the price, making things difficult for small farmers who are not part of the Fairtrade system and cannot afford to be.
We think that a fair price should be negotiated for a coffee which reflects its quality and the needs of the producer. We always pay more than Faitrade. High quality coffees are grown using varietals that taste better but yield less. Only fully ripe, defect-free beans are processed, improving quality and taste - lowering yields and raising prices for the farmers in reward for their effort.
In 2016 we changed our business so that we could support directly our Rwandan farmers families and the individuals involved in helping them to become self-sufficient. This began with the construction of a school in Musenyi which has now completed. The school construction is part of a wider project which has included safe water, community centre, farm equipment and training, and for 2017/18 a health post (900 patients a month).
